Pastor Joe's Spiritual Food For Thought
Though the light shines on things unclean, yet it is not thereby defiled.
~ Augsutine
For with you is the fountain of life; In your light we see light.
~ Psalm 36:9
The
sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor for brightness shall the
moon give light to you: But the Lord will be to you an
everlasting light, and your God your glory.
You sun shall no
longer go down, nor shall your moon withdraw itself; For the Lord will
be your everlasting light, And the days of your mourning shall be ended.
~ Isaiah 60:19-20
Prayer
is a sincere, sensible, affectionate pouring out of the soul to God,
through Christ, in the strength and assistance of the Spirit for such
things as God has promised.
~ Bunyan
Prayer is not overcoming God's reluctance: it is laying hold of its highest willingness.
~Trench
The prayer that beginning with trustfulness, and passes on into waiting, will always end in thankfulness, triumph and praise.
~ A. Maclaren
Light is the symbol of truth as darkeness is the symbol of falsehood.
~ J.R. Lowell
Moral light is the radiation of diviner glory.
~ Anonymous
The
light of nature, the light of scinece, and the light of reason, are but
as darkness compared with the divine light which shines only from the
word of God.
~ J.K. Lord
This
is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is
light and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have
fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice
the truth.
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we
have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son
cleanses us from all sin.
~ 1 John 1:5-7
The best way to revive a church is to build a fire in the pulpit.
~ Dwight L. Moody
Revival
is a new beginning of obedience to God . . . just as in the case of a
converted sinner, the first step is a deep repentance, the breaking
down of the heart, a getting down in the dust before God, with deep
humility and a forsaking of sin.
~ Charles Finney
Then he
said to them "It is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ
to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day," and that repentance
and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all nations,
beginning at Jesrusalem.
~ Luke 24: 46-47
Prayer
is the “open sesame” of the Bible. Always begin your Bible
reading with prayer for divine guidance. All of us in reading some
current book have wished the author were present to answer and
explain some things, but this is rarely possible. Amazing as it
seems, this is possible when reading the Bible.
~ G. S.
I
never saw a useful Christian who was not a student of the Bible.
-
D. L. Moody
The
very same Holy Spirit, who led these men to write, longs to lead us
today so we can understand. Without the Holy Spirit, the .Bible is
like an ocean which cannot be sounded, heavens which cannot be
surveyed, mines which cannot be explored, and mysteries beyond
unraveling. We must – we must – yield to the leadership of the
Holy Spirit.
~G.
S.
That
if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your
heart that God has raised Him from the dead, , you will be saved. For
with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.
~Romans
10:9-10
All
the sin that has darkened human life and saddened human history began
in believing a falsehood: all the power of Christianity to make men
holy is associated with believing truth.
-J.
A. Broadus
The
wages that sin bargains for with the sinner are life, pleasure, and
profit; but the wages it pays him are death, torment, and
destruction. To understand the falsehood and deceit of sin, we must
compare its promises and payments together.

Sin
may open bright as the morning, but it will end dark as night.
-Talmage
But
now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God,
you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. For
the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord.
~Romans
6:22, 23
What

God
is concerned with nations, but nations also need to be concerned with
God. No nation can have a monopoly on God, but God will bless any
nation whose people seek and honor his will as revealed by Christ and
declared by the Holy Spirit.

Blessed

own inheritance.
-Psalm

Praise
the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who Delights greatly
in His commandments.

When
Karl Barth, a famous Theologian was asked what the greatest though he
ever had, his reply was “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible
tells me so”.
In this the love of God was manifested toward us,
that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might
live through Him.
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
~1 John 4: 9 - 10
One
day a lady criticized D. L. Moody for his methods of evangelism in
attempting to win people to the Lord. Moody’ s reply was “ I
agree wit h you. I don’t like the way I do it either. Tell me, how
do you do it?” The lady replied, “I don’t do it.” Moody
retorted” Then I like my way of doing it better than your way of
not doing it.”
~ Anonomous
And
Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given
to Me in heaven and on earth.
“Go
therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in
the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
“teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and
lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
~Matthew
28:18-20
How
then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how
shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall
they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they
are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those
who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good
things!”
~Romans
10:14-15
