Silver City is a town in Grant CountyNew Mexico.  As of the 2000 census, the town population was 10,545.  It is the gateway to the Gila National Forest and the home of Western New Mexico University.

At an average altitutde of 6,000 feet, Silver City has a diverse landscape, ranging from high desert in the south to high mountains across the north of the county. Temperatures are generally mild, giving us four gentle seasons.
