City of Rocks State Park

A volcanic-tuff formation 28 miles east of Silver City — camping, stargazing, picnics, easy family exploration among the boulders.

Pillars of welded volcanic tuff that erupted ~35 million years ago and weathered into a maze of rounded boulders. Strange and photogenic; the kids love climbing the lower formations.

Day-use and overnight camping. Dark-sky designated — bring a blanket and stay past sunset for the stars.

Pair with a Silver City overnight or visit on the way to/from Deming.
