Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument

Ancient Mogollon cliff dwellings about 44 miles north of Silver City on Highway 15. NPS-managed; the regional anchor for history-minded visitors.

One of the most-visited destinations in southwest New Mexico โ€” the Gila Cliff Dwellings preserve a series of late-1200s Mogollon cliff rooms tucked into a natural alcove above the West Fork of the Gila River.

Visitor access is by a one-mile loop trail from the trailhead. Allow 1.5โ€“2 hours for the round trip plus museum stop at the visitor center.

Highway 15 from Silver City is a slow, scenic two-lane through the Gila โ€” plan ~1.75 hours each way, watch for elk near dusk, and gas up before leaving town.
