Cactus with the Dazed Gaze
A whimsical journey through the desert where a bewildered saguaro cactus shares tales of the most peculiar sights and characters that call Southwest New Mexico home.
In the desert's dusty haze, I met a cactus with a dazed gaze,
It said, 'I've seen tumbleweeds dance, and snakes wear pants!'
Oh, Southwest New Mexico, you're a land of quirks and wonder,
Where even the cacti have stories to ponder!
Out in the desert, where the sun is ablaze,
I stumbled upon a lizard, trying to catch some rays.
But instead of basking in the heat, it wore a tiny straw hat,
Said it was trying to be the coolest reptile, imagine that!
In Southwest New Mexico's barren expanse,
I came across a jackrabbit doing a country dance.
He wore a cowboy hat and boots that were quite grand,
And his two-step moves were the finest in the land.
There's a peculiar phenomenon in the desert, they say,
Where coyotes gather 'round for a poker game each day.
But instead of chips, they bet with tumbleweeds and sand,
Seems even the wildlife in New Mexico has a mischievous hand!
In the desert, I met a saguaro tall and proud,
It said, 'I've seen a javelina serenade to the crowd!'
With a guitar in its spiny arms, it strummed a tune so sweet,
The cacti bandit stole the show, making the desert sing and meet.
While traversing the Southwest's desert floor,
I stumbled upon a rattlesnake's general store.
It sold sunscreen for lizards, hats for the sun,
And boots for scorpions who wanted to have some fun!
Out in the desert, where the sand meets the sky,
I found a roadrunner that could really fly high.
With a cape on its back and goggles on its face,
It zoomed through the canyons, an avian space ace!
In Southwest New Mexico, where the heat's extreme,
I met a tumbleweed that had a peculiar dream.
It wanted to join a rodeo and ride the wildest bull,
But rolling around was all it could do, bless its heart, poor fool!
There's a quirky desert legend that floats around,
Of a coyote with a sombrero, a sight to astound.
He howls to the moon, wearing his fancy hat,
Keeping the desert spirits entertained and tit-for-tat!
In the land of desert quirkiness, a story is told,
Of a desert mirage with a sense of humor so bold.
It shapes itself like a cowboy, riding a cactus steed,
But disappears with laughter, leaving you to concede.
