Description
No leader in the 20th century was more influential or tenacious than Sir Winston Churchill. As Prime Minister of the United Kingdom during the Second World War, the ”British Bulldog“ helped lead the Allied forces to victory, despite, as he put it, having ”nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.“ Churchill not only detested the Nazis. He was also an inveterate enemy of Communism, which he rightly viewed as a grave threat to democracy. This folder contains coins issued in Russia and the USSR. The first is a copper 2 kopek, KM-10, issued by tsar Nicholas II—the lookalike cousin of British King George V. The second, a 20 kopek, KM-111, circulated during the Second World War, during Stalin’s reign. The last, a kopek, was issued every year from 1961 until the collapse of the Soviet Union—and the ”Iron Curtain“—in 1991.
