Description

Sold individually. The Guide Book of Peace Dollars explores every date, mintmark, and major variety of America's last 90% silver dollar, struck from 1921 to 1935. Roger W. Burdette explains the coin's origin as a tribute to peace after World War I and studies Proofs, patterns, trial pieces, errors, countermarks, and notable collections. Collector Barry Lovvorn assisted with the detailed date-by-date research. The book shows why Peace dollars offer a different and often more accessible collecting experience than Morgan dollars, with the 1921 high-relief issue regarded as one of the most attractive U.S. coins. A major section examines the mysterious 1964-D Peace dollar, supported by interviews with Denver Mint employees who worked during its production. Burdette describes the coin's design history, production process, ways to collect and grade the series, the influence of hoards and melting, and unusual pieces that appear on the market. He also provides rarity ratings, market values, biographies of key figures, a VAM cross-reference, updated information on early Proofs, and research tables on pattern and experimental strikes. Author Roger W. Burdette is a former member of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee and an award-winning numismatic researcher whose work includes the Renaissance of American Coinage series and From Mine to Mint . He has contributed widely to Whitman publications and continues to study U.S. mint history and experimental coinage.
