Instead of doing so, however, Pit- man turned toward Blaine. As he did so, both fired almost simultaneously. Pitman fell dead, shot through the heart, the ball entering under the left arm and passing through the body and coming out under the right arm. Blaine was shot through the shoulder, the ball striking the shoulder-blade and splitting, one half coming out on the left side below the ribs and the other on the right side. Blaine lived only two hours.
