On the re-assembling of the board at 7
p.m. it was found that there was an insuffi-
ciency of oil, and Col. Sam Carpenter sent down
to the city and purchased fifty cents worth of
candles and illuminated the court house on this
inauguration eve. It puzzled the bystanders to
determine whether it was a wake or an attempt
to foreshadow the inevitable result two years
hence.
