Downtown*ghost_town_Tyrone_N_M_title_added_by_SRCA_staff*
Notes: Tyrone; Here is a scene in the ""downtown"" section of Tyrone, New Mexico, called the only
deluxe ghost town in the sense that it is completely abandoned. It is owned by the Phelps and Dodge
interests, and lost it's main purpose in life when nearby copper mines declined. But houses in the
residential section are still rented, many of them to commuters who work in Silver City, 10 miles to
the north. Tyrone's heyday was in about 1915, when it had a population of 5,000.
