Ensconced in the southwest corner of the
territory of New Mexico lies the county of
Grant. Blessed with the most equable tempera-
ture and healthful climate on the globe, the
most fertile of valleys, producing in abundance
all of the semi-tropical fruits, besides the
hardier varieties of the farther north, and fur-
nishing sustenance for a larger number of cattle
than any of the counties of Colorado by fifty
per cent. Yet, in addition to these advantages,
it comes to the front as the largest gold and
silver producing county in the United States,
proportionate to the amount of capital employed
in the mines and reduction works in the county.
