G. D. Bantz followed and while he dealt
less in oratory, he stuck more closely to the
evidence, reviewing every particle of the case
in such a way as to carry conviction to the
jury that the prisoner was guilty of homicide.
The jury was not long in returning a verdict of
“guilty of murder in the second degree,” which
seemed to suit nearly all of the people who had
listened attentively to the trial.
