Heflin has resided in this city with his
wife and five children for the past two years.
His life here has been one continual round of
drunken debauchery and violence. At different
times he has beaten and abused his wife, driv-
ing her away from home at the dead of night
to take temporary shelter with some of the
neighbors. He has frequently threatened to kill
her. His spells of violence have occurred so
often and were of such a brutal nature as to
have long since become the talk of the town.
He has several times been under arrest, each
time his wife begging for him, under the empty
promise that he would drink no more, but
after each time he became more violent than
before.
