Volume io No 43 WHITE OAKS NEW MEXICO THURSDAY OCTOBER 10th 1901 Subscription 150 a Year MINES IN SOUTH ERN NEW MEXICO New riineral Discoveries in Dona Ana County The New Mexican has the following concerning new mining discoveries in Dona Ana county The well which is being driv en south of Carlsbad for oil is down 1500 feet A six foot run of ore was struck in the Graphic mine at Magda lena in Socorro county S T Bitting and Samuel B Smith of Carlsbad Eddy county are sinking a discover shaft on their copper claims in a canon branching off from Dark Canon about two miles west of Thayers ranch in Eddy county E A Herpersger has been ap pointed manager of the new cop per mining camp in Caballero canon in Otero County He has established the camp and will put a number of men to work as soon as the machinery arrives which is expected every day Air drills will be used Many claims have been staked in that section The Pacific Union Smelting company of San Francisco is erecting a 50ton furnace at Lordsburg Grant county and will be readT to receive ore by the
