WESTERN LIBERAL rAI3 UP VK1TER RATIONS FOR LAYERS Broodei House With Tar tjly W M KELLT If the flock Is to be healthy vig orous and productive it must ba supplied with tbreefoM food ele ments protoin carbohydrates and ash In making up winter rations it is not nectssury to devote much If any titration to the amount of ash or mineral matter for this is easily sup plied While it Is true that many flocks produce large egg yields on Im properly balanced rations yet the fact remains that the wellbalanced ra tion is safer and more economical to feed the fowls when thoy are kept un der normal conditions An excess of protein will to a cer tain extent take the place of a defi ciency of carbohydrates but it Is cheaper and bettor for the fowls to have an abundance of carbonaceous foods No one kind of grain should bo used as an exclusive diet Mixed grains like oals wheat corn barley buck wheat can be combined so as to give a nutritive ration of one part pro tein to six parts carbohydrates with good results Any mixture of good clean grain ma bo used If well
