MONDAY MAY 3 1909 THE SANTA FE NEW MEXICAN SANTA FE N M PAGE SEVEN SUNDAY IN THE CHURCHES First Presbyterian Church The pastor of this church had for his morning theme yesterday The Agitator taking his text from I Kings xviii 17 And tt came to pass when Ahab saw Elijah that Ahab said unto him Is it thou thou trou Bier of Israel Among other things Dr Purcell said The prophet Elijah was perhaps the most perfect example of the agi tator in all history He stood opposed to the social and political order of nis day he stood up against the state religion he was the sworn enemy of an idolatrous kingand a sensual queen And like all men who stand up bodily for some great cause he was accused of being an agitator a political incendiary a troubler of Is rael He was hated by the men in power And he stands out before us today as a stern reformer most un popular and yet the one man of his day who really counted and whose words really mattered Agitators Worthy and Worthless Here let me say there are certain limits to the value of agitation
