Including special tax raised in Silver City, Inde-
pendent school district, and poll tax, there was
paid out in the last year in the school district
$15,172 for school purposes. There are now
15 school houses belonging to the various dis-
tricts in which they are situated; several more
will be erected in this year — 1890. The school
census of this year will show about 2000 chil-
dren of school age in the county. The superin-
tendent reports that the teachers, as a rule, are
fully competent to fill their positions and that
the school trustees have attended well to their
duties. Grant County has no school debt. The
county tax levy is 2*4 mills on the dollar of
valuation for school purposes. There is no terri-
torial school tax.
