On the following day the writer renewed an old acquaintance with Heath and Kelly, saloon- keepers, who had sixty odd indictments against them in Dallas. Through them he met several of the gang and was introduced as an old friend, which under the circumstances was very pleasant, as it would prevent any accidents or misunderstandings in the future. Shortly after that time Heath organized a crowd and held up the company’s store at Bisbee, killing several persons, including a woman, and secured con- siderable cash and plunder. They were after- wards captured, and Kelly, Big Dan, Red Sample and Texas Howard were given a judi- cial hanging in Tombstone for the crime. Heath was lynched by a mob in Tombstone for the same offense. He was considered one of the hardest men in the southwest. He died game.
