Quite a serious accident occurred at the Commercial mine at Georgetown, last week. The regular engineer was temporarily absent and Alex McGregor, foreman of the mine, undertook to run the engine. Two men, Ed Han- rahan and James Hawley, were in the skip being hoisted to the surface. It seems that Mr. McGregor did not know how to stop the engine, and the skip was carried to the top of the gal- lows frame breaking the timbers and hurling the men out, badly hurting Hawley. Dr. Ste- phens was sent for on Saturday last, and reports that Hawley’s right hip and thigh bones were badly shattered, but that he will recover. Mr. McGregor has been almost prostrated with grief over the sad accident.
