reluctantly  did.  Subsequent  events  proved  that 
he  was  correct  in  his  estimate  of  Taylor’s  char- 
acter, for  the  loss  of  his  hat  led  to  his  detection 
and  arrest,  and  he  in  order  to  shield  himself, 
gave  away  his  companions  in  crime.

Luke  Brothers  have  received  orders  from 
San  Gabriel,  California,  for  a carload  of  empty 
whiskey  barrels,  which  will  be  used  for  wine 
casks.

Arrangements  are  going  on  for  the  execu- 
tion of  Pilar  Perez  next  Friday.  The  scaffold 
will  be  erected  on  the  north  side  of  the  jail  and 
be  enclosed  to  shut  off  the  view  from  the  public. 
John  Patton,  of  the  Enterprise  force,  has  been 
engaged  to  read  the  death  warrant  to  the  victim 
and  to  act  as  interpreter.

An  advertisement  of  a store  in  a mining- 
camp  in  this  county  mentions  the  following 
articles  kept  for  sale:  “Dry  goods,  fresh  beef, 
clothing,  boots  and  shoes,  caps  and  fuse,  post- 
age stamps,  charcoal  and  giant  powder.”
