after the shooting, Lovely called and
said he was sorry, but was not well received,
and pulled out for Socorro county. He is now
working on the SU ranch. When the boys meet
again there is apt to be trouble, as Dud did not
like Lovelyโs method of breaking up the ball.
An enlisted man by the name of Dorsey,
who was accused of stealing $15 from a
person by the name of Rutledge, after being
found guilty of the crime, made his escape from
the officers of Central. A correspondent of the
Enterprise from Fort Bayard seems to censure
the officers for not re-capturing him. He was
pursued by soldiers and citizens, and if the
correspondent is correct, the capture could, and
should have been made. It seems that Sergeant
Scott shot at Dorsey in an attempt to arrest him,
which has created a good deal of comment
among the soldiers. The question as to whether
a soldier has the right to shoot another; al-
though acting under orders, is creating dis-
cussion both pro and con among the soldiers,
and they want information on the subject. They
claim that they could have captured this man
Dorsey, but were afraid that if they shot him
the civil authorities would have been after them.
