His Fortunate Escape From a Family of
Murderers in New Mexico. Extermination
of Bloodthirsty Robbers

Campbell Hardy, a Boston, Mass., jeweler,
is reported to have related, while in Chicago,
111., recently, some of the experiences he had
ten years ago in New Mexico. Mr. Hardy made
the money that gave him a start in life by
peddling. He traveled through all the far west-
ern states, but the most exciting time he ever
had, he said was in New Mexico.
One day, when much fatigued and hungry,
he stopped for dinner at what appeared to be
a trapperβs cabin. The house was several miles
from any other habitation. He had about $800
worth of stock and $1,200 in money. When he
entered the house he discovered that the occu-
pants were a man of about sixty, a twenty-five-
year-old son, and two women.
The appearance of the old man caused Mr.
Hardy to distrust him, and he heartily wished
