The superintendent of the mine states that
the Aztec company in September last caused
the shaft house to be removed, but left a trap
door over the bucket way, and the manhole was
closed by a shed with a door which was fasten-
ed. The only possible way for a man to get into
the shaft was to crawl through a small opening
in the south side of the shed, where a board had
been torn off.
