Masonic Fraternity in Grant County, New Mexico
Morehead of Silver City leading the territorial Grand Lodge in 1889 [3]. 17, expanding the order's reach [3]. By 1890, the territory had seventeen lodges with 699 Master Masons, and the Grand Lodge adopted a resolution setting aside funds for a charity fund to relieve indigent Masons and their families [1][2]. The Masons, along with the Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows, had their halls in the Templar building [5]. Initiation ceremonies were conducted regularly, as when Vic Culbertson traveled from the Sapello to be initiated in the local chapter in 1889 [4].
