Calvin Herring: Grant County Rancher and Confederate Veteran
He lived on a ranch on Meadow Creek with his daughters [3]. A staunch Democrat, he fought in the Confederate Army and was shot in the breast at the Battle of Gettysburg [1]. He was a respected citizen of Grant County [2]. In August 1891, after his daughters were assaulted, he died by suicide at his home using a Winchester rifle [2]. He was buried at Pinos Altos [2].
