Charles Gamble (person) — NAN Ranch owner killed in horse accident, 1891

In April 1891, Gamble was riding rapidly toward his home at San Juan on the Mimbres River with two companions when his horse stumbled and fell on him at about 10 o’clock in the morning [2][3]. He was brought home unconscious until 5 p.m., when a messenger was sent to Silver City for a doctor [2][3]. Kimball of Cooney left at midnight to attend him, but Gamble died from his injuries [1][3]. Gamble owned what is now the NAN Ranch on the Mimbres [1][3] and was buried in the cemetery on Lower Mimbres, beside the road to Deming [1][3].
