Charley Small Is the Captured Leader of a Mexican Central Train Robbery Gang
Charley Small, also known as Charles Small, led a five-man gang in the robbery of an express train on the Mexican Central road near Chihuahua [4][3][5]. The robbery occurred at Mapula station, 14 miles below Chihuahua [4][3][5]. Beatty’s Biecho ranch [5]. Accomplice Doc Hines stated that Small and he entered the express car, and Hines received $100 in Mexican silver and $50 in Mexican gold as his share [5]. Small was captured shortly afterward [3][4]. A letter from ex-soldier Von Heine confirmed Small as the leader [1]. Johnny Bell had left for Mexico with Small, and it was believed they would be executed within a month under Mexican law [2].
