Deming, New Mexico: Water Quality and Refrigerating Plant
The water of Deming was famed throughout the Southwest and considered the best in America. [1] In February 1913, Henry Meyer's refrigerating plant on Gold Avenue, one of the most modern in the Southwest, was placed in service in a new brick and concrete structure. [2] At the same time, freight rate discussions were underway, with the State Corporation Commission promising better rates. [2] Early Deming, as described ten years after its founding, was a tent city with no houses, only a depot platform in the desert. [3]
