Deputy Sheriff Hall – Fatally Shot by Pilar Perez in 1886
Deputy Sheriff Hall arrived in Pinos Altos in 1886 to find a party of Mexicans who had abducted a girl and wounded her brother on the Mimbres [5]. Returning to Silver City just above town, he encountered Pilar Perez leading a horse carrying the girl [5][3]. Pilar fatally shot Hall in the back; the girl escaped and told of the assassination, and Hall’s revolver was found fully loaded in its scabbard [5][3][2]. Pilar fled to Socorro, Albuquerque, and Arizona [3]. Nearly two years later, a deputy sheriff captured Pilar at a baile in Flagstaff [3]. Sentenced to hang on July 6, 1888, Pilar Perez was executed, avenging Hall’s death [1][4].
