Watson on the 14th instant for killing a man the previous day and was taken to San Carlos and placed in the guard house [1][3]. Apusy stated he left his ranch about two weeks earlier to go to Dudleyville for supplies [2][3]. While there, water washed away Cook’s store, and he stayed to help Cook save his goods [4][3]. When he returned a few days later, he found that county supervisor Childs had reported him dead, discharged his hired man, and was going to sell his property as administrator [4][3]. The hired man, named Andy, saddled Apusy’s mule, turned out his three cows, stole his money and notes (about $130) and a six-shooter, and rode away [4][3]. Apusy told him to come back; Andy replied he was going to drive cows and would not [4][3]. Apusy shot him with a Winchester, found the money on him, and tried to burn the body as hogs were eating it [4][3].
