George Olney: Stagecoach Guard and Posse Member
After intelligence suggested a stage would be held up, George Olney was placed on the stage with a shotgun to "convey to the robbers the compliments of the stage company" [1]. The robbery was attempted, and Olney emptied his shotgun into the three-man party before they could demand "hands up," stampeding them [2]. A posse—Olney, Jim Randall, Henry Grey, and John Hoovey—trailed the men behind where Morenci later stood, guarded them through the night, and ran them down at daylight [3]. The three captives were taken to Clifton, ironed, and transported to Solomonville [2].
