**J. J. Pearson** was a saloon co-owner in Lordsburg, New Mexico, who shot at his business
Pearson and Cummings co-founded a saloon business in Lordsburg after moving together from Omaha, where Pearson brought his wife and three children [4][5]. Pearson allegedly extended “favors” to Cummings, shattering domestic felicity, and Pearson attempted to drown his sorrows in Lordsburg whiskey [4][5]. Gaddis, while Cummings roomed in the same house [4][5][3]. Gaddis, and implored his wife to return home, but she declined [1][2]. When Cummings started up the stairs, Pearson pulled a .32 caliber gun and began shooting [1][7]. Cummings tumbled down the steps, ran into a restaurant, and escaped through a back door after a bullet punctured a pantry door [1][6][7]. Card and remained remarkably calm [8][7].
