Jo Harris — foreman fatally cut in Steele’s saloon
Harris worked for Samuel Harsh as foreman of the H.W. ranch near Fleming [3][5]. On Tuesday, he discharged employee Lee Linley for refusing an order during the round-up [3]. Harris then sought Linley in town to collect $10 in borrowed money [3]. Thursday, Harris entered Bob Steele’s Commercial saloon and a quarrel escalated: Linley warned Harris not to kick him, Harris kicked him several times, and Linley cut and stabbed Harris in the face, neck, shoulders, arm, and under the left rib, a wound considered probably fatal [1][4][2].
