John A. Murray, father charged in sons' Pinos Altos explosion deaths
Murray [1][3]. Murray waived a preliminary trial and was committed to jail to await the action of the grand jury [1][3]. The boy Johnny had previously been crippled for life by a railroad train and possessed $900 recovered from the Deming and Pacific railroad for the loss of a leg [3]. It is said that the father wanted this money [3]. Murray made a deed of gift of $600 of the money, which he became heir to by reason of his son John's death, to his surviving son, Frederick [2][3]. The balance of the $900, less funeral expenses, was to be used to pay his attorney's fees [3]. The mother had committed suicide over two years ago by an overdose of morphine [2][3].
