Julian Swallow – Disappeared Prospector
Swallow was well known along the Mimbres River and had formerly lived at Central. [1] He disappeared mysteriously about a year before the discovery of his body, reported in July 1891. [1] Around that time, some Mexicans were seen trying to sell books, including Livingston’s Africa, near Whitehill’s ranch. [1] Local opinion held that those men were the murderers or had knowledge of the crime. [1] The case drew little official attention because the victim was only a poor prospector. [1]
