Lee Linley: would-be bad man in 1891 Grant County cutting scrape
Linley had worked for Harris, foreman of the H.W. ranch near Fleming owned by Samuel Harsh [2]. After a dispute during roundup, Harris discharged him [2]. The next evening, Harris sought Linley at Steele’s saloon, claiming Linley owed him ten dollars [2]. At 6:15 a.m. the following morning, Linley confronted Harris about an accusation of stealing an H.W. horse [2][3]. Harris kicked Linley, who then cut and stabbed him with a knife, inflicting serious wounds including a dangerous cut under the left rib [4][5]. Stephen, and Linley fled to parts unknown [5].
