Levi Harkey — Horse Thief Arrested in Grant County, 1888
Levi Harkey, along with Joe Phillips, stole four horses from a location four miles from Duncan, Arizona, on April 18, 1888 [1]. The pair then broke into the Nichol Ranch and stole a saddle, and later broke into the Circle Ranch, stealing a Winchester and a pistol [1]. Carwile’s place, about a mile below town [1]. One thief halted when commanded, but the other spurred his horse and attempted to flee; a few pistol shots from a pursuer brought him to a halt [1]. Harkey was charged with stealing four head of horses and burglary at the Nichol and Circle ranches [1].
