Lucy Croenne, Nettie's Place manager, murdered by Charles Baine
Lucy Croenne had been in charge of Nettie’s Place on Hudson Street for about a year [3][2]. She was described as a tall, stylish, good-looking woman of French extraction, always demure and modest in appearance [3][2]. On Friday last she left for El Paso in the company of Charles Baine, alias “Frenchy” [6][5]. Charles Hotel, Baine shot Croenne with a Colt’s .41 caliber revolver and then killed himself [2][4]. The two had been drinking heavily; a search of their joint possessions revealed about $77 in cash [4]. Croenne’s husband, Victor Croenne, left for El Paso the following Tuesday [1][4].
