500 and reported that turkeys appeared in that phase [1]. In a personal communication prior to 1961, Martin told Schorger that the Hough turkey specimen dates to 1100 AD and perhaps earlier, and that a couple of turkeys dating from about the beginning of the Christian era were found but subsequently destroyed [1]. 250 were recovered from Pine Lawn phase deposits at Tularosa Cave but were discarded after becoming infested with insects [1].
