Petronilo Jaramillo was a man charged with adultery in Grant County, New Mexico, who married his co-defendant Teresa Lopez in the district court before pleading guilty in 1891.[1]
In district court, when the jury was ready to try Petronilo Jaramillo on the charge of adultery, he and Teresa Lopez announced they had decided to marry legally.[1] The presiding judge performed the ceremony.[1] They then pleaded guilty to the charge and were sentenced to six months in the territorial penitentiary, with the sentence suspended on good behavior.[1]
