Pinos Altos, New Mexico – 1880s Mining Camp Revival and Homicide
By 1888, the camp was called "one of the liveliest camps in the territory" [1][5]. The Pinos Altos road connected it to Silver City [4]. A fatal shooting occurred on Friday in the Pinos Altos athletic club rooms in 1889, when miner John Dodd, employed by the Mountain Key mine, was killed by Constable Fisher after refusing to disarm; a coroner's inquest exonerated the officer [6][7]. Decades later, a gold prospector was photographed there in 1940 [2][3].
