Prof. Philpin
Philpin, recently married and living at Shakespeare, came into Lordsburg on a Wednesday in June 1888 to take the train for Arizona, where he had accepted a situation with a mercantile establishment [1]. While in Lordsburg he got drunk and missed the train [1]. Philpin at Shakespeare, stating that her husband was drunk and at Johnson's house [1]. When she arrived, she found her husband, and a scene followed; after the couple partially healed the breach, they turned on Johnson for his interference [1]. Philpin wanted her husband to whip Johnson, stating she would do it herself if he did not [1]. Buck's counsel, Philpin was persuaded to take a train for his destination [2].
