Robert Redding – Lone Mountain Miner Acquitted in 1888 Killing

The dispute began when Redding sold a mining claim to Manley, leading to court and bitter feelings [4]. Manley later threatened to kill Redding, and on the Sunday before the killing, Redding intervened in a fight between Manley and Joe Crizer [7][3]. On Wednesday morning, Redding confronted Manley and, after Manley allegedly reached for a weapon, shot him four times; Manley was unarmed [6][8]. Redding was arrested, hired attorneys Bail & Ancheta, and was tried in December 1888, ultimately acquitted [1][2].
