LEAD: Thomas Lyons was a Grant County man who imported Bob-White quail to the Gila River [1] and was later allegedly killed by Felix Jones in 1917 [3].
In 1889, Lyons’s wife was badly hurt after being kicked by a horse [2]. Two years later, in 1891, Lyons imported two dozen “Bob-White” quail and turned them loose on the Gila, asking hunters to refrain from killing them until they could multiply [1]. In February 1918, Jones’s trial for the killing began in El Paso, with Lyons’s widow and daughter present in the courtroom [3].
