Walter Birchfield: Cowboy in 1889 Separ Killing
Birchfield was a cowboy implicated in the Christmas Day Hachita shooting, where cowboys shot up the town and killed Hines [6][5]. He and Bradshaw were arrested near Chase & McCabe's ranch [6][7]. At trial in August 1890, he was charged with flourishing and firing a pistol and fined $50, for which he felt thankful [2][4]. Birchfield stated that Devine did the shooting and that Billy King was not present [1][3]; he also witnessed Devine's powder burns and picked powder from his face [7].
