The emotional signature is one of the cleanest discriminators. Signal tends to arrive in a low-noise emotional state. Noise tends to arrive with urgency, identity inflation, or compulsion.

A sharp rule

If it flatters you, doubt it.

Typical signal signature

  • Calm, coherent, quiet.
  • Optional, not commanding.
  • Patient, not urgent.
  • Ethical and integrating, not self-serving.

Typical noise signature

  • Urgent, loud, emotionally spiky.
  • Identity-inflating (β€œchosen,” superior).
  • Compulsive (β€œyou must act now”).
  • Ethics-bypassing (β€œrules don’t apply”).
