Bill Caldwell — Pyramid miner hold-up and arrest
Bill Caldwell, armed with a Winchester rifle, held up three miners—Doyle, Plunket, and Dougherty—as they emerged from a shaft at midnight near Pyramid [2][3]. Caldwell marched the men down the road, releasing Plunket and later Doyle, but kept Dougherty [1]. Doyle and Plunket raised an alarm, and an armed posse found the two men about three miles from camp [1]. Caldwell then tried to get Dougherty to promise not to prosecute him [1].
