Charles Brown, Tucson ferry owner and massacre survivor
Days before an Indian attack, an old chief whom Brown had befriended warned him of his tribe’s murderous intent and advised him to leave immediately [1]. Brown apprised his companions of the danger and declared his intention to leave for California at once, but encountered an obstacle to his departure [1]. Because of the chief’s warning, Brown escaped the fate of his fellow owners [1].
