Dr. Charles L. Mason — Kingston Doctor Killed by James Hiler

Hiler, proprietor of the Mountain Pride Hotel [3][4][1]. Hiler, who was left destitute after her husband went to Texas and consented to a divorce [7][4]. Hiler returned to Kingston about two weeks before the killing, having been told that Mason took too much interest in his affairs [4]. On the evening of the 22d, as the stage arrived at the hotel, Hiler fired two revolver shots into Mason’s body, both striking vital parts and causing death within five minutes [2][7]. Hiler lay at the foot [5][6].
