John P. Slough — shooting scrape with father-in-law Charles W. White
Slough lived in Chicago and had divorced his first wife about two years before marrying White’s daughter [1][4]. After domestic trouble, his wife returned to her father in Cincinnati, and Slough followed [1][3]. The two men met in front of Peterson’s store, where White fired first [2][3]. About ten shots were exchanged; White was hit in the abdomen and right shoulder, while Slough was wounded in the hand [2][3]. Both were taken to the hospital, where doctors said White’s chances of recovery were slight [2][3].
